I love making a chawan, to let the shape evolve naturally during the process of creating. Some of my chawan are made on the wheel, others by using the kurinuki technique or purely by sculpting by hand. I love the simplicity and uniqueness, firing with wood, being close to earth and therefore myself. The reflection of the ash or shino glaze through the tea makes drinking it a joyful and heartwarming experience.
Drinking tea alone or sharing this in stillness, is truly a beautiful moment of being with what is, in the here and the now, in peace. A simple but great joy!
