Hand Pinching with Alvin Ng Exploring Local Clay, Local Ash, and the Personal Touch

Alvin invites participants to learn his unique hand pinching method, developed through years of working with wood-fired pottery and local clay experiments. Alvin fires nearly every other month, constantly testing breakthroughs in the performance of local clays and wood ash. His practice emphasizes simplicity of form, natural clay textures, and hand-marked surfaces that embody both tradition and individuality.

Participants will explore his philosophy and technique of pinching, learning how to form chawan with uneven yet balanced proportions, where imperfection reveals beauty.
