A chawan stand (bowl stand) is a refined tea utensil that enhances the steadiness and elegance of tea drinking. By using the natural curves of bamboo and combining circles of different sizes, participants create an orderly pattern out of seeming randomness, resulting in a utensil full of artistry and visual charm—always pleasing to the eye and a joy to use.
Starting with a large bamboo circle, smaller circles are nested within, then filled with even smaller twigs or toothpick-like pieces. With glue binding them firmly together, and careful sanding to achieve smoothness, the result is a beautiful, patterned tea utensil.
The bamboo chawan stand not only serves as a practical tool but also as an object of aesthetic delight and collectible value. Through this engaging DIY experience, participants will bring home both a unique creation and a sense of accomplishment.
