Serving a bowl of tea - With Sincerity at heart
Chen Shu-Yun's ceramics depict the beauty of flowers with ink painting methods using glazes such as celadon, copper red, the jun glaze, and the tea dust glaze. Her mastery with the renown traditional glazes present an atmosphere that is clean and elegant.
Her use of glazes on the chawan is even more adept. She mixes and matches famous glazes such as celadon, copper red, and the jun glaze to obtain the endless variety that is characteristic of abstract paintings.
The chawans are pinched and feature carved lines and patterns on the outside, much like contemporary sculptures. Decorating the outside of the chawan with slips contrasts strongly with the use of the colors on the inside.
