I use eco-friendly wood-firing to present the naturally rich textures and colors of the unrefined clay. The chawans are shaped by pinching, and the clay was also manually refined to retain the grains of the natural mineral. The clay, with its primitive quality and the distinctive handfeel created by the artist, is transmutated into the Mother Glaze by super high-temperature wood-firing.
The Ten-colored Kiln Sweat chawan revealed in 2000 took inspiration from the natural glaze in the front chamber and inner walls of the snake kiln. The work combines the essence of thousands of years of glaze history, and is also the tea's soulmate. The Mother Glaze chawan unveiled in 2014 took lessons from the magma deep in the depths of the earth and demonstrated the boundless energy of mother nature.
