Huang Yu-Ying's Lavender series originates from the deep feelings evoked by mother nature which turn interminable memories into infinite plains of purple, bright green, greenish-blue, and white that dazzle. The wind carries the scent of the lavender as it dances and lays down a romantic canvas.
Huang's kinoha tenmoku series has a natural leaf burnt into the piece. After refinement by high temperature, the convoluted veins of the leaves can be readily seen, putting its unpolished, graceful form on display. It's as if a real leaf is floating on a sea of glaze, elegant and graceful. It is truly a skillfully crafted treasure. The most remarkable of them all is her unique "upright leaf" technique that overcomes gravity to burn the leaf into the vertical face of the bowl, further enhancing the strength and character of the work. It is quite a pioneering feat.
