I try the best I can to preserve the original quality of the earth in my works in hopes of expressing its calm, unrefined, and natural appearance and aura. The earth from Hsinchu is made into a unique clay for wood-firing after sifting, washing, and kneading, with rock particles and other impurities of the raw clay left in the clay on purpose. The natural ash in the kiln and control of the carburization process yield raw and rich changes to the surface. Although the end product remains artificial, I still hope that my works can express a simple, unpolished elegance while at the same time present variety.
