Stepping into the world of wood firing ceramics always feels like entering an ever-changing and unpredictable realm. YT Wang, a retired engineer, applies his expertise in logical analysis and years of practical experience in firing to "observe wood firing" and analyze every aspect of the process.

Wood firing possesses a unique beauty, and indeed, its process involves a considerable level of uncontrollability. However, aside from weather factors, many variables in wood firing are introduced by the ceramists ourselves.

In his book "Wood Firing Notes - Kiln Loading and Firing," YT Wang outlines how ceramists can minimize the variables they introduce during kiln loading and firing, leading to more precise and relaxed firing outcomes. Following the concepts and methods in the book not only allows for achieving the desired effects more easily but also reduces the defect rate and failure rate of the firing process, conserves energy, and dispels the misconception that "wood firing always produces black smoke."
