The ceramist's everyday work encompasses all the madness and dreams of humans: conquer the mysteries of the universe and place them in a modest lump of clay.
Tenmokus are stars and moonlight, Celadons are lakes and deserts... that’s what her research is about. 'It is my humble homage to thousands of generations of ceramists, with hands in the same clay - sublimating technical difficulty to turn raw rock and ashes into poetry…’
Ariane’s life is set in a broad expanse of nature where horses are born and live freely. Her studio is hidden there. Unkempt nature has shaped her and still inspires her. For over 25 years she has been making teaware and tableware—of world-wide interest and a focus for collectors—as well as her unique, mainly large-scale home-design ceramics.
The film 'Drops of Light on my Clay' gives us a behind-the-scenes glimpse of her creative work. In 2021 it was selected and broadcast at the ceramics film festival in Jingdezhen. In the second part of her lecture, Ariane will share some investigation methods with local raw materials, in her unending quest for glazes, textures and colors. Her closest accomplice in this adventure is fire, whose magic seals the pact.
